Back Beach at Sorrento, Mornington Peninsular
Back Beach is accessible by Ocean Beach Road, at the end of which is the car park area and the Sorrento Surf Life Saving Club. Once you arrive there, it is hard not to be impressed by the view of the ocean and the beach.
To reach the sands of Back Beach, you simply need to take a walk down a set of wooden stairs before the tan sand hits the feet.
Plenty of people – including couples and families – can easily spend the day at Back Beach. Just be sure to bring along a beach towel and sun tan.
Rock Pools in Sorrento
One of the most exciting things about Back Beach is its rock pools. These craggy outcrops can be found at the northern end of the beach. Leave behind your shoes and step out on to the rocks while walking on top of the seaweed that has planted themselves on the rocks.
The water does sweep in from the ocean. While visiting the rockpools, do be careful not to slip and fall. There are caves and crevices that can be explored along the shoreline of the rockpools. It is most certainly a fun experience for anyone who is curious and slightly adventurous.
Coppins Lookout
For those who’d rather not get their feet wet, there is Coppins Lookout. It is situated high above on the cliff overlooking Back Beach. Take the hundred or so meter walk up the path and head up to the lookout. It offers spectacular views. You can also look out for Sphinx Rock to the north west, along the coastline.
Feeling peckish? All Smiles is a cafe that offers food along with the spectacular ocean views.
