The Noble Playground in the Bronx offers kids in the neighborhood a place to have some fun amidst play equipment while the adults can make use of fitness equipment too.
Given a $2.5 million makeover and reopened in August 2023, the Noble Playground is a welcomed spot for those living in the neighborhood.
Children’s Play Area at Noble Playground
What will get most families with young children excited is the new playground equipment at the park.
At the center of the playground is a turquoise play structure. The play equipment comprises of a tower that is made up of poles and layers of climbing sheets. Kids can use the holes that are built into the climbing sheets to ascend up the tower, making tier way to the top where they can get a nice view of the playground.
Another feature of the Noble Playground is the metal slide located beside the tower. To get to the top of the slide, kids will have to take the rung ladder – a ladder that is made up of a pole with protruding rungs for kids to climb.
The soft-padded playground also also has play features for younger children. A low bridge with play panels provides a little spot where young kids can have fun making their way from one end to the other.
Another is a hill that has slates for kids to climb up and over. There is also a little crawl space under the hill where kids can hide away or use as a little den.
Some low stepping stone invite kids to hop about and help to connect the different pieces of play equipment at Noble Playground.
The former spray shower area has also been transformed into a water play space – perfect for hot summer days.
We also like that there is colourful pavement that draws kids and families into the park.
Fitness Area
In addition, the new fitness area at Noble Playground includes parallel bars, chin up bars and other fitness equipment.
Recreation Space for Bronxites
The 2023 renovation to Noble Playground was the first full renovation of the playground since 1954. Noble Playground originally opened in 1939 as part of the Bronx River Parkway extension and was named after Alfred Noble, a city engineer.
We are glad that the park has been renovated and it is much more welcoming to the families in the neighborhood.
“We’re thrilled to unveil the reconstructed Noble Playground, an important recreation site for local residents for more than 80 years,” said NYC Parks Commissioner Sue Donoghue. “Among the new amenities, an enhanced water play area and newly planted shade trees will help keep children cool during the summer months, while adult fitness equipment has been added here for the first time. We’re pleased to provide the community with a new, attractive, accessible, and safe recreation space that can be enjoyed by Bronxites for years to come.”
State Senator Nathalia Fernandez said, “I am so proud to witness this ribbon cutting, marking a new chapter for Noble Playground in the heart of the Bronx. This reconstruction stands as a testament to our commitment to creating safe and vibrant spaces where children can play, learn, and thrive. May this playground serve as a symbol of community unity and endless possibilities for generations to come.”
