Walking along the Cheongjin District in Seoul, you will find yourself surrounded by tall modern buildings. However, just take a few steps off the main thoroughfare and you will find Cheongjin Park, a quiet little park that captures a bit of the spirit of the past and Cheongjin-dong as it used to be.
The current Cheongjin District that we can see today is the result of the Cheongjin District Urban Environment Improvement Project. It can be found around the Jonggak Subway Station and Gwanghwamun Subway Station.
Cheongjin Park: Hanok & Nature
However, to preserve a bit of the past, Cheongjin Park was created. This park is where people can stop for a rest and where vestiges of the past remind visitors of how the Cheongjin-dong area used to be.
A traditional hanok building located in the center of the park is the “Jongno Promotion Center”.
The building is a restoration of the “Gurigae Restaurant” that was built in 1935. It adds a sense of tradition to the park.
There are little foot paths that criss cross the rectangular shaped park.
Kimchi vessels stand within an area cordoned off by a low stone wall.
Cheongjin Park feels like a nice tranquil spot in the midst of the urban jungle.
Wooden Pavilion in Cheongjin Park
One of the best spots to simply soak in the vibes of Cheongjin Park is at the western edge of the park.
A wooden pavilion offers both seating and shelter.
The intricately constructed, open-air pavilion is a welcoming spot where you can admire the brightly colored flowers of the park or spend some time people watching.
There are also other stone seating areas around Cheongjin Park, allowing a bit of respite from the bustle of the big city.
If you are looking for a place where you can eat a quiet lunch or simply take a seat outdoors to enjoy the beauty of Seoul while in the Cheongjin District, pay a visit to Cheongjin Park.
