There is no need to introduce who the Alexander Hamilton Playground was named after.

It can be found at Hamilton Place, commonly know as Hamilton Heights, although it is properly know as Harlem Heights. The land was at one time part of the College of the City of New York. This was before it was handed over become a public park and playground in 1923. The first Alexander Hamilton Playground opened to the public in September 1924.

The playground was redesigned in August 1995 with new play structures, safety surfacing, flowerbeds, and an elephant-shaped climbing sculpture.

It is an old school playground where kids can let loose and have some fun. Amongst the playground features are separate swing sets for big and little kids.

There are two separate play structures: a set of lower toddler play structures and big-kid-sized play structure.

When it comes to the hot summer days, there is a small water sprayer feature.

There is also an elephant animal sculpture that kids can climb on at the playground.

In addition, other amenities at the Alexander Hamilton Playground include basketball courts, and public restrooms that open till 4 pm.

Another feature of the Alexander Hamilton Playground is the mural called “Following in the Footsteps of Alexander Hamilton”. This is an 80-foot-tall by 25-foot-wide mural of a tree and hot air balloons with inspirational words.

It was painted on a building overlooking the park in the summer of 2017 by the organization CityArts and created in collaboration with local youth, professional artists, volunteers and residents in the community.

“Following in the Footsteps of Alexander Hamilton” celebrates the unique community identity of Harlem where Hamilton lived.

Overall, it is a lovely open space where kids can play and just to be outside.

There are also Citi Bikes docks, the bike rental service, located outside of Alexander Hamilton Playground. This makes it convenient if you are planning to cycle up to the park and dock the Citi Bike while enjoying the park.
