Bellevue South Park in Lower Manhattan, New York City, can be found at East 26 Street To East 28 Street, along 2nd Avenue. This New York City park has fitness equipment, basketball courts, a children’s playground and even a dog run.
What’s at Bellevue South Park
In June 2023, Bellevue South Park was reopened after being renovated. This was the park’s first renovation since 1997 and it has received upgrades to its facilities.
This includes new playground equipment, a reconstructed basketball court as well as upgrades to make it more accessible to everyone.
The renovation also included the add-on a permanent dog run.
New ramps were added and the pathways repaved at the 1.59-acre Bellevue South Park . The perimeter fence along the three street sides was lowered from 6 feet to 4 feet to make it more accessible.
Bellevue South Park Playground
The Bellevue South Park playground now features an expanded play unit and play-house. New swings for toddlers have also been added so that young children are also able to better enjoy the play facilities.
The new play structure at the Bellevue South Park playground consists of a low platform with green and red trimmings.
Kids can climb up the various apparatus, including a climbing tunnel net, to get to the multi-storey platform and enjoy exploring the play equipment.
The playground also has a rampway for those in wheelchairs to access play panels.
The Bellevue South Park playground is open from 7 am to 6 pm (Nov. 1 – March 1), and 7 am to 9 pm (March 2 – Oct. 31).
Other Facilities at the Park
The brand-new, ADA-wheelchair accessible dog park has more space and a water feature for the upcoming hot summer days.
You can also look out for events held with the park from time to time. These include free movies in the park during the summer months.
Another feature of Bellevue South Park is Skagerrak, a Cor-Ten steel abstract sculpture is made of three identically sized, interlocking oblongs. This is the work of contemporary artist Antoni Milkowski that is a 7-foot-tall abstract representation of the Skagerrak strait running between Denmark, Norway and Sweden.
The park gets its name from nearby Bellevue Hospital, one of the world’s leading medical institutions.
