Borealis Gardens By The Bay: Swirling Northern Lights At Supertree Grove

The futuristic setting of the Supertree Grove is also the setting for Borealis at Gardens by the Bay, a new addition to the free night-time programmes at the Singapore attraction.

Borealis at Gardens by the Bay: Supertrees Amidst Northern Lights

Borealis is a light installation by Switzerland-based artist Dan Acher. It simulates the Northern Lights or Aurora Borealis. The installation makes use of lasers that travel through particle clouds to create a mesmerising and surreal effect.

The light installation is accompanied by a custom atmospheric soundtrack by French composer Guillaume Desbois. This pair of the lights and the music create a dreamy and contemplative atmosphere at the Supertree Grove when the installation is running.

Since 2016, Borealis has travelled to more than 40 cities across Europe, Australia, Asia and the United States. This includes cities such as Hong Kong, Sydney and London.

The Borealis installation in Singapore at Gardens by the Bay is its first permanent installation. It is also significant as this year is a rare bumper year for Northern Lights sightings since it is the peak of the solar cycle, where natural occurrences of the cosmic lights phenomenon are at an all-time high in more than two decades.

The Northern Lights-inspired artwork at the Supertree Grove is also the first new addition to the free night-time programmes at Gardens by the Bay. It joins the ever popular Garden Rhapsody light and sound show.

The installation is an ever-changing experience as it will change with variations in the wind, humidity and temperature.

The experience is almost other worldly and it just invites viewers to slow down, pause and soak in the beauty of the Borealis installation.

While Garden Rhapsody takes place every day at 7.45 pm and 8.45 pm, the Borealis show will only be shown on Saturdays, Sundays and Monday.

The timings for the Borealis installation is 9 pm every Saturday and Sunday and 8 pm on Monday. This means that it can be watched after the 8.45 pm Garden Rhapsody show on Saturdays and Sundays, and after the 7.45 pm Garden Rhapsody show on Mondays.
