Brooklyn Bridge Park Playgrounds: Fun Play Areas For Kids & Families

Brooklyn Bridge Park is a great park for kids and families to visit, especially because of the numerous Brooklyn Bridge Park playgrounds that offer fun play spaces for children to enjoy.

Built on the site of former industrial piers, the Brooklyn Bridge Park is now a waterfront park with green spaces and recreational facilities that attract visitors of different ages. It is no wonder that is such a popular park for both locals and tourists to visit.


What’s at Brooklyn Bridge Park

The park stretches for around 1.3 miles along the Brooklyn shoreline, offering stunning views of the Manhattan skyline.

It is located on the Brooklyn side of the East River, just beside the iconic Brooklyn Bridge, hence its name.

The park’s facilities include sporting grounds like soccer fields and volleyball courts, as well as a boathouse and green lawns that host various events throughout the year.

For families, one of the chief attractions of the Brooklyn Bridge Park is its green spaces that kids can enjoy.

Another are its numerous children’s playgrounds.

There are a total of 11 Brooklyn Bridge Park playgrounds and play areas, offering a wide variety of experiences for kids and families across the park.

They are also located close to the park’s entrances to make them easily accessible to families.


Main Street Playground at Brooklyn Bridge Park

Located at Main Street, this Brooklyn Bridge Park playground spots a nautical-themed. Kids can make their way up the ship-shaped playground.

They can pretend to hoist the sails and man the ship from the deck of this playground, located beside Manhattan Bridge.


Jane’s Carousel

An iconic feature of Brooklyn Bridge Park is Jane’s Carousel, not far away from the Main Street Playground.

This antique carousel was built in 1922 and originally installed in Idora Park, Youngstown, Ohio. It was restored and donated to Brooklyn Bridge Park by Jane and David Walentas.

It opened to the public in September 2011 and is housed in a glass pavilion at the park. It has a total of 48 horses and two chariots.

Brooklyn Bridge Park Pier 1 Playground

The Pier 1 Playground is inspired by nature and features a small wooden play structure that is suitable for younger children.

There are also swings for younger children in the fenced up playground and little log tunnels that inquisitive kids can crawl through.

Leafy trees at the playground add some shade and a natural setting to the Pier 1 playground.


Pier 2 Swings & Water Area

You will find a set of children’s swings at the southern end of the Pier 2.

These offer kids a chance to swing through the air while enjoying the stunning views of the Brooklyn Bridge in the distance.

It is a nice spot to stop and simply enjoy a leisurely view of the world passing by.

Kids who wish to cool off can head over to the Pier 2 water area where there are water jets built into piles that were formerly at Pier 3. What a cool way to repurpose something old and give it a new lease on life.


Pier 3 Labyrinth

Take a wander amongst a maze of bushes and shrubbery at the Pier 3 Labyrinth.

Hidden amongst the maze are various sound play elements that kids can use to explore the auditory world of sound.


Pier 5 Playground

This play area is purposely located at the Picnic Peninsula at Brooklyn Bridge Park Pier 5.

The metal play structure is stretched out with climbing ropes, providing kids with a fun way to burn off some energy between grabbing some food.

There is a springy play element that kids can enjoy with views of the nearby pier while little play structures offer simple fun play for young kids.


Pier 6 Playground

Pier 6 is a hub of children’s play areas at Brooklyn Bridge Park. There are multiple things for kids to do and enjoy at the Pier 6 playground. These are more naturalistic play features that incorporate different elements into the play experience.

Swing Valley feature interesting rope swings were kids can sway through the air. They can also climb through a sphere with climbing ropes inside. A tower with a slide offers more climbing fun.

Head over to Slide Mountain for a zip down the slope built into the terrain.

The Water Lab features a water jet field with spray jets and fountains for kids to cool off in the summer. There are also different installations, like a giant water screw, that kids can operate at this water playground.

Sandbox Village invites kids to enjoy some imaginative sand play amongst wooden structures like a hut.
