History of Lion’s Pride Playground

Lion’s Pride Playground, previously known as RSVP Playground. RSVP Playground was an abbreviation for Riverdale, Snediker, and Van Sinderen Playground.

The playground has a fascinating history that dates back several decades. The site was acquired by the City of New York in 1929 and initially named RSVP Playground in 1997.

However, just a year later, the name was changed to Lion’s Pride Playground to pay tribute to the magnificent lion, symbolizing strength and beauty.

The local community embraced the name change, and in 1999, a reconstruction project was undertaken to give the playground a lion-themed makeover.

The play equipment was painted yellow to represent a lion’s golden mane, creating a playful and vibrant atmosphere for children to enjoy. Additionally, a lion water basin was added, adding an extra touch of excitement to the playground.

Over the years, Lion’s Pride Playground has provided countless opportunities for families to come together and create lasting memories.
